Breast Cancer Is No Longer Restricted By Age, Youngest Female Diagnosed Positive Is A 9-Year-Old Utah Girl

Breast cancer is no longer limited to older women as a 9-year-old girl was diagnosed with the deadly disease. She shared in a recent statement that people should be aware of their body no matter what age they are.

The 9-year-old, Chrissy Turner, was diagnosed a year ago when she was only eight. She is now in recovery, and Turner said that she wants to spread the word to people regarding the importance of body awareness, Hollywood Life reported.

She is reportedly in remission now as she is doing well with regard to the medications and the treatments she has undergone. Although Turner is said to be quiet and shy, she was able to speak before an audience during an event this October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The annual event was held in Atlanta on Oct. 7 by The Pink Frog Foundation. The event is on its fifth year and honors breast cancer survivors.

Turner, a native of Utah, shared with People, "If you ever find a lump, don't wait. You should go to a doctor have it looked at." The mother of Turner, 44-year-old Annette, is also a cervical cancer survivor and she said that her daughter now knows there is nothing she can't do since she survived breast cancer.

Turner found out about her breast cancer after noticing a hard lump under her right nipple and it was painful to touch. During that time, she asked her mother what it was. Her father then insisted that they go to a doctor. A doctor reportedly gave the 9-year-old antibiotics, but Turner's mother went with her gut feeling and let her daughter undergo an ultrasound.

They then found out that she had secretory breast carcinoma, a rare type of breast cancer. The young girl underwent a mastectomy in December of 2015. She now receives breast scan every quarter.
