‘Legend Of Korra’ Graphic Novel Initial Release Date Revealed; ‘Turf Wars’ Will Continue The Show’s Story

"Avatar" fans can once again rejoice as "The Legend of Korra" has been announced to be getting its own continuation story in the printed media format, with the first of the planned three-part graphic novel series for the show set to hit sometime in June next year and will be titled "Turf Wars."

Entertainment Weekly broke the news, as shared by IGN, revealing that Avatar Korra's story in the "The Legend of Korra" series will continue on through a graphic novel series that will be released next year. The graphic novels will be a three-part series, with the first book being called "Turf Wars, with the story written by "Avatar" series co-creator Michael DiMartino and drawn by artist Irene Koh while "Avatar" series co-creator Bryan Konietzko will be providing feedback.

"The Legend of Korra" ended back in 2014, after an almost back-to-back broadcast of its final two seasons. Originally envisioned as a miniseries follow-up to "Avatar: The Last Airbender," which was later renamed to "The Legend of Aang," "The Legend of Korra" eventually blew up into a full blown series although with shorter seasons compared to its predecessor.

The show told the story of Korra, Avatar Aang's successor as the all-powerful Avatar which is the embodiment of the world's spirit responsible for mediating the piece between the four elemental nations. One of the main themes presented in "The Legend of Korra" is how Korra handles her responsibilities as the Avatar, not only as a very headstrong teenager but also as the Avatar in a highly tenuous time, and "The Legend of Korra" graphic novel will continue her story just like how Aang's story continued through the same media.

"The Legend of Korra" TV series famously ended with one of the most controversial finales in history, with the final shot of the series showing the two main female leads Korra and Asami holding hands. The series' creators later confirmed that the two did develop a romance, which will presumably be explored in "The Legend of Korra" graphic novels.

As for the story of first part of the three-part "The Legend of Korra" graphic novels, "Turf Wars" will pick up straight where the series left off and have Korra and Asami try to deal with the fallout of the Spirit World portal that showed up in Republic City. As if that was not enough, additional trouble in "Turf Wars" will come in the form of an unscrupulous businessman looking to profit from the portal by turning the area into an amusement park.
