Xiaomi, the Chinese technology manufacturer, is now selling 4K high definition Android TV boxes for only $69. The device is called the "Mi Box," and it is the first product that the company has produced for US consumers.
The Android TV boxes basically turns your regular television set into a smart TV, by simply connecting the box to the HDMI input of the LCD TV. Like other Android TV boxes, the "Mi Box" from Xiaomi offers users access to online streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, as well as many others.
The "Mi Box" also allows for playback from thousands of media apps, thanks to Google's Cast technology. "Mi Box" also comes with a remote control with a built-in microphone which allows for voice search.
Unlike the other Android TV boxes, Xiaomi's "Mi Box" offers 4K streaming, giving its users a one of kind Smart TV experience, without having to spend as much. Other Android TV boxes have yet to make it big with the general public, and Xiaomi hopes to make a difference with their low price, according to Variety.
With its bargain price of only $69, the Xiaomi "Mi Box" stands out from other brands that offer Android TV boxes with 4K HDR streaming, such as the new "Premier Plus" streamer from Roku which comes at $100. Roku also has its own device that comes with a remote control with voice search, in the Roku "Ultra", which comes at $130.
The "Mi Box" is Xiaomi's attempt to break into the US consumers market, as Hugo Barra, the Vice President of Global Operations of Xiaomi, while talking to Bloomberg's Betty Liu has stated that they want to become one of the leading tech brands in the US. They plan to slowly and steadily get there in the near future.
