Katie Murphy of Ballinamona, Waterford, passed away tragically in a car accident last Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the age of 16. Family and friends have paid tribute to her.
Stories of the tragic death of Katie Murphy have circled around the net. Katie died in a car accident in Co Waterford, according to the Irish Mirrors. She was with other two teens, now in critical condition, who happened to be passengers also in the car. The report also says that the accident occurred around 8:20 p.m. when the car they were roving in hit a wall at the Cliff Road, Newtown in Tramore.
Families and friends left heartbroken after pouring out their tributes to their "much loved" Katie. In his Facebook, Hilary Murphy, father of Katie, said he did not know how they can cope without their "beautiful" child, the Irish Mirrors reported.
Katie's uncle, Paul Murphy, also posted a tribute message on Facebook for his "much loved niece," according to Evoke.ie. In his post, Paul said that their beautiful and much loved niece, Katie, died last night in a car accident and he asked prayer for Katie and her devastated family and extended family and friends. Paul also thanked the emergency services for their support and help.
A friend also posted online a tribute message for the deceased teen, Evoke.ie continued. The post says that they were saddened by the news of the accident, and Katie was so young and had her whole life ahead of her and then rest in peace Katie Murphy.
Edel Connolly, principal of the Ursuline School, also expressed his tribute for Katie, the Journal.ie reported. In his message, he said that Katie was a very positive, lively, outgoing girl and will be missed terribly. He also added that they were all in shock and were thinking of her siblings, family and friends all day.
Car crashes are the top cause of death for American teenagers, according to the report of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In fact, in 2013, 2,163 American teenagers ages 16 - 19 were killed and 243,243 were treated in emergency departments for injuries in car crashes, the report added.
