As an iPhone 7 user, one of my major concerns regarding this model is how little its design has changed from previous versions. It's nearly identical to iPhone 6/S. While the new iPhone seems great on its own, Apple's designs look disappointingly leapfrogged as compared to Samsung's beautifully crafted Galaxy S7 and Note 7 (if it doesn't explode that is)
Apple used to pride itself on pushing standards forward, with the rest of the industry attempting to copy or catch up. Meanwhile Apple's rivals have perfected their designs, Apple itself has released the same look third year in a row.
It might seem superficial to add too much weight and focus to design, but it's something users take a bit too seriously. And well, as the saying goes.. "the customer is always right" especially concerning a device they carry around and use all the time. In all honesty, it's hard to get people excited about something new when it looks identical to something old.
According to Business Insider. there are slight changes to the new iPhone 7's design. Those unsightly antenna lines on the back have been moved to the edge so they're not very noticeable. The camera has up-sized as well. This is to accommodate a new camera sensor that is capable of taking better photos in low light.
iPhone 7 comes in two great colors: jet black, matte black. The former is the most striking color. I bet it is best suited for showoff-y people. Its body is so classy that you can literally see your reflection in it, and it feels slick in the hand.
At the other end of the spectrum, simply holding this device for a while can cover it in smudges and Apple has warned that scratches may show up easily. So much so, if you're in for the jet-black option, make sure you get a case. As far as the price goes, you might be aware that the jet-black model is only available with higher-storage tiers (128, 256 GB), which costs $100-200 more than base models.
Personally speaking, I like the matte-black color much better. It's made from anodized aluminum and has quite a futuristic look to it; something Batman might be imagined using. At any time if you're stuck in the color dilemma between jet-black and matte, I'd suggest you go with matte.
From a hardware perspective, the new camera is the most salient improvement. Both 7 and 7 Plus have significantly larger sensors that take in more light to capture better photos along with a greater accuracy in representing photo colors that manifest on the phone's improved display.
Perhaps the dual-camera feature in the 7 Plus is the real thing. Each camera captures a picture and the system stiches them together simultaneously. This is remarkable when it comes to shooting portraits with professional-looking "bokeh" effect that blurs the background. However, this requires an upcoming software update later this year.
