"Justice League Dark," the next film in the DC Animated Movie Universe, had more of its details revealed during this weekend's New York Comic-Con with director Jay Oliva sharing his vision of how the movie should turn out to be and what its characters will bring to the ongoing animated DC animated film series.
In an interview with IGN during New York Comic-Con, Oliva said that his main goal with "Justice League Dark" was "to make a horror film with superheroes in it." Oliva explained that, in the vein of other installments in the DC Animated Movie Universe, "Justice League Dark" will still have action and will actually be more of an action-horror story although there will be clear moments of scares in the movie.
Speaking of the characters of "Justice League Dark," which will feature some of DC's lesser known characters not present in the Justice League juggernaut banner like John Constantine and Swamp Thing, Oliva said that Constantine has always been a favorite of his. Oliva recalled the failed project of creating a Swamp Thing movie, noting "how fantastic" it was that Swamp Thing and the rest of the Justice League Dark including Constantine would be the center of "Justice League Dark."
DC television series fans will remember the ill-fated "Constantine" series in NBC, where he was played by Matt Ryan who was brought on to provide his voice for the character for "Justice League Dark." Olive said that having Ryan, whose performance was often lauded as one of the most loyal and defining portrayals of the character, return for "Justice League Dark" was great and noted the actor's willingness to travel to LA from the UK to record his lines.
Another major character in "Justice League Dark" will be Batman, with apparently smaller appearances by the other Justice League members as well, although producer James Tucker revealed in a featurette shared by Mr. Marbles on YouTube that they are not going to be the focus. There is no definite release date as of yet for "Justice League Dark," only that it will release sometime in 2017.
