The joy of pregnancy is celebrated by moms in different ways. But on social media, a maternity trend is on the rise. Mothers heavy with child are sharing photos of their baby bumps in the dreamiest way. Milk bath photography, with the pregnant moms submerged in a tub of white and creamy liquid while surrounded by colorful flowers, is gaining a lot of attention on photos sharing sites.
"Maternity milk bath shots are lovely because they are so organic, [its] all about the mother and her belly and her bond with her unborn child," photographer Stefanie Zeltner told Cafe Mom. She has been commissioned plenty of times by pregnant moms who are jumping in this latest maternity trend.
Another photographer who has done milk bath photography with clients, Ashley McGinty, shared that the maternity trend clicks because it puts focus on the moms and their baby bumps exclusively, according to Pop Sugar. Mothers are not pressured to dress up in fancy costumes or outfits and photographers do not have to come up with an elaborate location to document the pregnancy in the photo shoot.
Australian photographer Wendy Atkins said that for many of her clients, milk bath photography appeals even for the shy mothers because they don't have to do poses. "Not every client is a model shape and a milk bath helps them feel more comfortable," the photographer shared, according to Daily Mail.
Pregnant moms will only need a tub, at least 3/4 gallons of milk and pre-cut flowers. If there's no tub, then a kiddie pool would do. "It's a comfortable and natural environment for mom and baby," Ashely McGinty points out.
Depending on the mother's preference, the milk bath might also be dabbed with essential oils and fragrance, which the mother can indulge in after the shoot. Some add extra props such as drapes, laces or flower crowns worn by the mother, to give the photos a more ethereal style.
The best time for moms to have a milk bath photography session would be during the final weeks of pregnancy. By then, the baby belly is full and round, which adds to the natural beauty of the photos.
