Apple’s iOS 10.1 Beta 3 Release: Check Out Portrait Camera Mode For iPhone 7 Plus Here

Apple has recently released the iOS 10.1 beta 3. The latest update brings the Portrait camera mode for iPhone 7 Plus and introduced a blur effect over photos similar to what's seen in DSLR cameras.

The Portrait camera mode, which was already demonstrated by the tech giant's recent keynote, uses the dual lens system, according to 9to5Mac. Watch how iPhone 7 Plus' new Portrait mode works on in the video below.

Registered developers can update their current iOS versions to iOS 10.1 beta 3 by going to their device's Settings page, select General, and then click the Software Update button. Those who don't have a developer account can still install the iOS 10.1 beta 3 by following this video's simple instructions.

The iPhone 7 Plus' image signal processor achieves the Portrait mode's blurred appearance by using the wide-angle camera. With this, the device constructs a depth map and dissects the various layers of the snapshot to pick which parts to blur, Mac Rumors reported.

According to a separate report from 9to5Mac, iOS 10.1 beta 3's Portrait mode needs plenty of light for it to turn out really well. Scenes with insufficient light will not bear great quality, and oftentimes the iPhone 7 Plus will display a "more light required" warning.

iOS 10.1 beta 3's Portrait mode is equipped with a three of 10-second timer and can be used on people, animals, and inanimate objects, though it doesn't cater to videos. To use the Portrait mode, a person should be at least eight feet away from the subject. It should be noted as well that Portrait mode only functions with the iPhone 7 Plus' iSight Duo or rear facing Camera.

iOS 10.1 beta 3's Portrait mode status means it still has to iron out bug fixes. Expect more updates and improvements for the feature in Apple's future iOS upgrades.

Apple's iOS 10, which was released a month ago, is considered as the biggest release of the company's operating system. Some of iOS 10's most notable features are a redesigned Lock screen, a Siri update that allows third-party apps to interact with it, a new Messages app with stickers, new facial and object recognition features in Photos, Digital Touch, and Bubble Effects, among others. The Maps and Apple Music apps are sporting new designs as well.

What do you think of iOS 10.1 beta 3's Portrait mode? Do you think the feature deserves to be compared to the DSLR? Tell us your thoughts below and be sure to follow Parent Herald for the latest Apple and iPhone news.
