Ryan Lochte reportedly believes that he will be forgiven over the robbery scandal he was involved in during the Olympics this year in Rio. The U.S. swimmer also recently got engaged to his model girlfriend and details surrounding the engagement have been released.
During this summer, Lochte has been in the headlines after he lied about what really happened in Rio. Accordingly, Lochte and the other swimmers he was with claimed that they were robbed at gunpoint. However, it was found out that they damaged a property at a gas station when they stopped there to use the bathroom after being in a party.
They then were confronted by the guards and were asked for an amount of money as payment for the damaged property. The guards were armed but they did not point their guns at the swimmers, contrary to the statements of Lochte.
E! News reported that Lochte then issued a public apology after the investigation was concluded. He said during that time, "I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend-for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning."
The incident led to all four companies to terminate their contracts with Lochte regarding his advertising gigs with them. Also, he has since joined the latest season of "Dancing With the Stars." An insider shared that things have gotten better for Lochte and he is happy now about his engagement and his life in general. The source added that Lochte believes people will forgive him in time.
The statement comes after Lochte was heckled at by a group of people while performing for "Dancing With The Stars."
As for his engagement to Kayla Reid, the insider said that one of the main reasons why he asked her hand in marriage is because she was one of the few people who stood by his side during the ordeal. They have been dating since January this year, ABC News reported.
In a recent interview with "Good Morning America," Lochte said that he practiced the question so many times in the bathroom. He pointed out that when the time came he proposed, it was not perfect because he was struggling with his words and could not get the ring out of his pocket.
