"The Young and the Restless" is seeing some of its major stars leave the show, some for the reason of seeking greener pastures. When Steve Burton announced that he has decided not to renew his contract, rumors emerged that his on-screen father is also leaving. Doug Davidson, who plays Paul Williams, has addressed the rumors.
Steve Burton (Dylan McAvoy) last week announced his decision not to sign a new contract with CBS for "The Young and the Restless" when his current one expires in December. But fans can rest assured that Paul, Dylan's father, is not going anywhere.
"I'm not leaving. Unless you know something I don't! I love the show. No plans or thoughts to leave," Doug Davidson wrote on Twitter. Doug Davidson joined "The Young and the Restless" in 1978 and is now Y&R's longest-running current cast member.
The news of Steve Burton's impending exit and rumors of Doug's plan to leave come at the heels of other major characters leaving the show. Justin Hartley who played Adam Newman, for instance, has left to prioritize his new primetime project on NBC, "This Is Us."
Details on Steve Burton's last airing date are yet to be revealed. It also remains a question whether Dylan will be recast. Fans think he should be replaced as Sharon (Sharon Case) needs a man. The role that Justin Hartley left has also not been filled yet. For now, Adam Newman remains dead. Fans have been hoping to see the character back, and if it has to be recast, their pick is Michael Muhney, who portrayed the character before Hartley.
Are you happy that Doug Davidson is staying in Y&R? How do you feel about Steve Burton's exit? And will Adam Newman be back from the dead?
"The Young and the Restless" airs Mondays to Fridays at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
