Ben Needham's mother broke down in tears when handed with the toy car belonging to her son after it was found by the Kos search team. The boy's death is believed to be an accident after 25 years of search.
Detective Inspector John Cousins believes that the toddler died in an accident because of the result of status of the search and the only item found. The toy car was believed to be in the toddler's possession on the day of his disappearance on the Greek island in 1991, Daily Mail reported.
"I met with Kerry and other members of her family over the weekend. They were shown the item that was recovered. It was an item that Ben was in possession of at the time he disappeared. Kerry was able to confirm this. It was an emotional time for all of us." DI Cousins said.
The Kos team consisted of 19 South Yorkshire Police officers, an archeologist, forensic specialists, along with search and rescue personnel. They spent 21 days digging near the farmhouse and a second site 750m away.
DI Cousins said the toy found on Saturday was close to another item dated to 1991, BBC confirmed. There are 60 items found during the search and taken back to UK for analysis, according to The Guardian.
A friend of a digger driver is accused of being responsible for the death of Ben. He was clearing the land with an excavator on the day the toddler went missing. The driver Konstantinos Barkas, however, died of cancer in 2015 and was not able to give any information about the toddler. Kerry, Ben's mother, curses him to burn in hell out of her grief over the son's fate and keeping the secrets on his grave, DailyMail reports.
Kerry wanted to tear up the whole island for her remorse and grief over the son's disappearance. "Someone knows where he is. For God's sake, help me find him. We know he's dead but we need to find him. When someone dies you find a special place," she said.
