Before HBO premiered "Westworld," the series about synths, androids and robots, AMC already had "Humans," which is co-produced with the British network Channel 4. Because of the similarity in themes, both shows are currently being pitted against each other, especially since "Humans" is about to return to the small screen for Season 2. What do the cast and crew of "Humans" say about the comparisons?
Gemma Chan, one o the star of "Humans" who plays the synth Mia, said that she actually watches HBO's "Westworld" and loves the show. "I think there's definitely room for more than one show in this area," the actress said, according to Radio Times.
The executive producers of "Humans" are also not affected by the comparisons. In fact, they welcome having "Westworld" on the small screen. "If there's room for 156 shows about cops there's room for two about this," Sam Vincent, the co-creator of "Humans" said.
The people behind "Humans," however, point out that their show is also different from "Westworld" because it is set in an actual environment with the synths going about like human beings. On the HBO show, the synths are based in a controlled theme park.
Meanwhile, "Humans" Season 2 is set to premiere on Channel 4 in the U.K. on Oct. 30. In the U.S., viewers can follow the second season on the AMC cable network when it begins its run in February 2017, as Parent Herald previously reported.
Sam Vincent revealed that the synths in "Humans" Season 2 will have "expanded their minds," according to iNews. The show will also introduce a new villain who is a billionaire interested in artificial intelligence.
In the first season of "Humans," the synths were introduced as household helpers or service-oriented workers who would make menial tasks easier to manage with some people. But by the end of the show, some of the synths have started to awaken, hinting of a revolution against actual humans. Check out the teaser below.
