Marvel Cinematic Universe is already gearing up for its blockbuster hits next summer with its first adaptation of "Doctor Strange." It's going to be a different type of superhero movie as it will feature a little bit if enchantment, a dose of spirituality and mysticism as well as some astral projection.
The movie has already cast Benedict Cumberbatch ("Sherlock") as Doctor Strange, the neurosurgeon and sorcerer, and Chiwetel Ejiefor ("12 Years A Slave") as Baron Mordo, his nemesis. There have been reports that Tilda Swinton ("The Chronicles of Narnia") will be playing the Ancient One, Doctor Strange's mentor.
Now, there are rumors that Rachel McAdams ("True Detective") was just asked to play the female lead, according to Heroic Hollywood, but no confirmation from her reps have yet been relayed to the media.
The grapevine suggests that the actress, best known for her roles in the romantic movie "The Notebook" and the chick flick "Mean Girls," has been most likely tapped to play Clea, Doctor Strange's love interest, Comic Book revealed.
In the comic book series, Doctor Strange has had many lovers, but Clea, who also has mystical powers similar to the doctor as she comes from a family of sorcerers, is one of his most remarkable partners.
She was first introduced in the comics in 1964 as Strange's student. She would eventually become his wife in the story, even though Clea is the niece of one of Doctor Strange's greatest foe's, Dormammu, who practices dark magic. It hasn't been confirmed if Dormammu will also figure into the movie since the primary antagonist has already been announced. But Clea has ties with Baron Mordo as well, according to Screen Rant.
The movie is still in its pre-production stages, which means a lot can change between today and when it does finally begin filming in November in London this year, as Screen Rant also reported. But should Rachel agree to be part of the flick, this will be her very first comic book movie role.
"Doctor Strange" is scheduled to be out in theaters by November 4, 2016, according to Slashfilm.
The movie will follow Stephen Strange's rise from a former wealthy surgeon, who lost everything after a car accident damaged his hands, to becoming a sorcerer trained at mystic and martial arts. In the comic books, his character has been described as "the mightiest magician of the cosmos."
Jon Spaights ("The Darkest Hour") has been asked to write the script for the movie with Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") directing.
