Peter Thiel $1.25M Donation To Trump Campaign News & Update: Silicon Valley Divided; YC Not Firing Thiel

Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal, was reported to have given out $1.25 supporting Donald Trump's campaign for presidency last October 17. Silicon Valley is now in uproar regarding Thiel's contribution to the Trump presidential campaign.

According to Fortune, Peter Thiel is focusing on Trump's promise to slash government bureaucracy and inefficiency without being beholden to Republican dogma. Massively strong opinions have surfaced regarding Thiel's actions. Journalist and author Farhad Majoo shared on CNBC his thoughts on Peter Thiel's support for Trump. "It's pretty late to give this amount of money.... The polls are bad for Trump...," said the NYT Tech columnist.

Meanwhile, Sam Altman, president of Y Combinator and co-chairman of OpenAI, took to Twitter his view on Trump as US President.

Since Thiel is part-time advisor to Y Combinator, people called for his removal in the company to which Altman Tweeted: "Thiel is a high profile supporter of Trump. I disagree with this. YC is not going to fire someone for supporting a major party nominee."

Ellen Pao, co-founder of Project Include, released a statement: “Because of his [Thiel’s] continued connection to YC, we are compelled to break off our relationship with YC.”

Project Include is group effort to accelerate diversity and inclusion solutions in the tech industry. The tech industry is doing its best to turn the tables around due to it being known for racial discrimination and violating gender-stereotypic norms.
Peter Thiel is not helping in changing tech industry's image, especially now that he has shown full support to Donald Trump whose reputation has been tarnished controversial subjects such as racism.
