During the aftermath of Typhoon Matthew, a baby boy was born in 'Med 1' unit after Southeastern Regional Medical Center lost its electricity and water supply because of Hurricane Matthew. Logan Britt was born on Oct. 14 during an unexpected situation and in an unlikely setting.
Sandra Simon, the mother of Logan, told reporters that she panicked when her water broke early in the morning. "At first I seen that cord, I was nervous about having the baby on the way here to the hospital," Simon told 11abc. So the husband, Knox Britt, rushed Sandra to Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
When they arrived at the hospital, attending doctors thought Sandra might need to give birth through an emergency C-section and Med 1 was the quickest option for treatment, the WBTWNews13 has learned. Med 1 unit was brought into the hospital from Carolina's Healthcare System because of the hospital's loss of electricity and water as well as a staffing shortage.
Sandra said that when the doctors told her that she was going to the mobile, she didn't really know where she was going, the WBTWNews13 cited. Logan's father also mentioned that it is his first time to hear about the mobile and he also did not know anything about the mobile.
In the end, both Sandra and baby Logan has survived the labor. Britt family was also very grateful to John Roberts, the emergency doctor in Med 1, who helped Sandra to deliver baby Logan and Brandon Locklear, the OBGYN in Southeastern Regional Medical Center, who has already delivered between 5,000 and 7,000 babies, as of WBTWNews13.
Meanwhile, 10 babies are welcomed in Melbourne hospital during the strikes of Hurricane Matthew, the FloridaToday has learned. Though Hurricane Matthew brought stories of destruction and loss, several families are celebrating life.
