There will be a lot happening in the newest season of "The Walking Dead," teased showrunner Scott M. Gimple.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show executive touched on the upcoming season and indicated conflict is brewing in Alexandria. It seems the appearance of Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) former ally, Morgan (Lennie James), is going to cause trouble. For those who aren't up to date, Grimes and his crew moved into Alexandria while Morgan has returned triumphantly after saving Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Aaron (Ross Marquand). When the two brought back Morgan, he arrived just in time to see Rick execute someone, which triggered the conflict.
"And more importantly, right after he pulled the trigger, Morgan was there and they're face-to-face. What have we heard from Morgan? What have we seen from him? He said, "All life is precious," and the first thing he sees Rick do is shoot a man in the face. So right there, the facts point towards a bit of conflict there, a bit of an issue. And will the Alexandrians after that gunshot be completely down with what Rick was saying just a few moments before? Bit of a question mark there."
In related news, Reedus has given his two cents on the upcoming season. According to Nerdist, Reedus was quoated saying, "There's lots of action and lots of drama and lots of sadness like we always bring, but this season's particularly complicated.,"
He adds that, "The storylines are really interwoven with future and past. Certain things happen, and you're kind of like, 'Wow, that just happened.' Then you'll find out episodes later why that happened and what that meant. [Executive producer] Scott [Gimple]'s so good at planning for the future and taking little things and making them mean big things later. And you go, 'Oh, that's what that means...' A real mature sort of storytelling has really taken us over right now. It's super interesting and super thrilling."
Currently, no concrete premiere date has been set but according to speculation, we may see the return of "The Walking Dead" on Oct. 11. With the fall so far away, in the meantime, parallel series "Fear The Walking Dead" is set to begin this summer.
It's believed that the events in Season 6 will immediately follow where Season 5 left off.
