"Outlander" Season 3 actor Sam Heughan is rumored to be joining Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in "Sherlock" Season 4. Rumors about the actor's casting on the hit BBC series began after Heughan exchanged a message with series creator Mark Gatiss on Twitter.
Gatiss asked the Scottish actor about when they could possibly see each other to which the "Outlander" actor responded that they can meet once their schedules align. Fans immediately began expressing their hopes to see Heughan play a role in "Sherlock" Season 4.
As most fans know, "Sherlock" Season 4 is believed to be introducing the third Holmes brother. Initially, it was Tom Hiddleston who was rumored to play the role, but now, fans are hoping that it is Heughan who lands the role.
"Sherlock" Season 4 is also believed to be the series finale for the BBC drama, as Cumberbatch previously teased on the show's endgame. The "Outlander" star would, therefore, make a lot of fans happy because he has been known for portraying his roles well.
As "Outlander" creator Jeff Davis shared with Vanity Fair, they were immediately impressed by Heughan's audition. Davis said that they thought casting Jamie Fraser would be hard, but they were proven wrong once they saw Heughan do a scene for the audition.
"Sam is naturally very charming and in some ways has a lot of Jamie there," said Davis.
