A miscarried baby girl managed to live in the arms of her mother for two hours, and that is more than enough for the young couple, especially for mom Alyssa Young.
Alyssa who was happily married to husband, Justin, wanted to have a baby as she immediately trusted her gut when it told her to have a pregnancy test and experience the joy of seeing two horizontal lines. However, all that came to an end when she began experiencing unusual abdominal pains even when doctors told her what she was experiencing was "normal."
Several follow-ups with the doctor confirmed what she was afraid of for the past few weeks, she was having problems with her pregnancy and that her baby girl "Scarlett" was getting too big for her cervix to support, according to LittleThings.
Even with the magnesium medication, Alyssa's cervix continued to dilate and all was gone after 20 weeks and 5 days as Scarlett was released to the "outside world," but everyone knew she was just too young to survive. Baby Scarlett was held by her mother for two hours, which the couple said, was enough to say hello and goodbye to their beautiful daughter.
Alyssa was already at a high-risk on her pregnancy as she seemed to have suffered from cervical incompetence. They could not blame the doctors as Mayo Clinic explains that cervix incompetence can only be detected during pregnancy, and even so, it still is difficult to detect especially for a first pregnancy.
The sad case of a miscarriage is that it can be brutally traumatizing as the NHS calls it an "emotionally and physically draining experience" and mothers could experience feelings of anger and guilt with the common treatment of going to counseling or charity groups. Miscarriages are more common than one might think as this happens in a best estimate of one out of six pregnancies.
