Two Children Fatally Shot By Home Invaders, Parents Were Away During Horrifying Encounter

A home in Jonesboro, Georgia was invaded and the home invaders fatally shot the two children inside the property. According to police officials, the parents of the two children were not around when the encounter took place.

Reuters reported that the two killed children are a 15-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl. They are said to be siblings. The area where the two children were killed is said to have less than 5,000 residents and is located 20 miles south of the Georgia capital, Atlanta. The 15-year-old and the 11-year-old were reportedly shot at least once but details about where they were shot have yet to be disclosed.

Sergeant Ashanti Marbury of the Clayton County Police Department said in a statement that they receive an emergency call at around 5 A.M. from the house. The caller reported that someone broke in and that shots were fired from inside the home. Aside from the 15-year-old and the 11-year-old kids found dead, several other children were said to be found. The youngest is six years old. It was not confirmed what the relationship of the kids were to each other and how many other children were inside the home.

Marbury said that the parents were not at home during the incident and that they have been notified. They are not persons of interest or suspects. Howeverm it was not stated why the parents were not home or where they were at the time of the incident.

No suspects have been revealed yet and the motive for the invasion remains unclear. However, officials believe that the home invasion was not random and that investigators are trying to determine why the home was targeted. It was also not clear what led to the shooting.

Marbury added, "They've executed a search warrant at the residence to see if they can locate any additional facts or anything that might have been left behind," Guns.com reported. Neighbors said that the family has been living in the Jonesboro home for two to three months before the incident.
