"The Walking Dead" Season 7 Episode 1 is one of the most talked about premieres of the AMC hit zombie apocalypse series and Andrew Lincoln, the actor who plays the role of Rick Grimes, talked about the introduction of Negan. Andrew Lincoln regarded the Negan-Alexandria Survivors meeting as the lowest point of the main characters in "The Walking Dead" franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Andrew Lincoln after "TWD" Season 7 premiered. In the first episode of "The Walking Dead" Season 7, Negan was able to break Rick by killing Glenn and Abraham in front of everybody and asking him to cut the arm of his son Carl.
This has got to be the most devastating blow for Rick as the leader of the pack on "The Walking Dead." It is all the more devastating from when he lost his wife and when many of their other friends in the past franchises of "TWD" got killed off by being eaten by a walker.
When asked by the publication what filming "The Walking Dead" Season 7 Episode 1 felt for Andrew Lincoln, he shared that he wanted to do justice for Glenn and Abraham and that the scenes were so intense because they never shot anything like it in the past. He noted that there was a point in showing Rick first saying that he will kill Negan and then begging him to take the place of his son towards the end of the "TWD" Season 7 premiere.
As for losing Glenn and Abraham on "The Walking Dead," Andrew Lincoln said that he could only talk on a person level and that losing them was a terrible blow for him. He noted that losing Glenn, who is played by Steven Yeun and whom he considers as one of his best friends, left a shadow over the set and the story.
Andrew Lincoln also said that the deaths of Steven and Abraham as well as the introduction of Negan on "The Walking Dead" is the lowest point in the whole of "TWD." He noted that it would take a lot of time for Rick to recover.
Time also reported that Andrew Lincoln promised "The Walking Dead" Season 7 is going to be a different show. Rick is done while Maggie might be up to something such as leading the pack. He noted that the "all in this together" vibe on "The Walking Dead" is gone after the Season 7 premiere.
"The Walking Dead" Season 7 airs Sundays on AMC.
