The remaining episodes of Season 3 of the BBC/Netflix's "The Fall" will finally reveal what happens to Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan). Is he going to trial for his horrible crimes as the Belfast Strangler?
Season 2 of "The Fall" left viewers wondering if Paul really died from gunshot wounds, with Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) holding his gravely injured body. However, new "The Fall" Season 3 episodes confirmed that Paul is alive and is currently processing the depth of his crimes, which he claims he unknowingly committed because of his murderous alter ego.
In a recent interview, Dornan said that Paul and Stella's connection to each other go beyond the professional level, Yahoo! TV reported. According to the "Fifty Shades of Grey" star, the two have an "understanding of each other that's deeper than a standard detective/murderer understanding."
Dornan believes that both Paul and Stella have something to gain from their relationship. In the beginning of "The Fall," it was evident that Gibson wants to catch Spector and seek justice, but "there's also like a need for her almost to have Spector."
For Anderson, Stella's connection to Paul is more in line with her disgust over his actions. On "The Fall" Season 2, Gibson said that Spector is "repulsive" and "detested him with every fiber of her being." Paul represents perpetrators who end up getting off or being sentenced with a couple of years of prison time for raping or killing women. That's a meager punishment for ruining their victims' lives.
It's highly possible that "The Fall" will end with Spector in prison. Gibson's future, on the other hand, is up in the air.
Anderson said that "The Fall" Season 3's ending "is very much how I wanted it to end," Yahoo! TV further reported. In a preview trailer posted by the BBC Two Twitter page, Stella said that she wants Paul to live "so that he can spend the rest of his life in prison."
Is Gibson sympathizing in some form or another to the Belfast Strangler? At times, it feels like Stella is becoming too close to Paul's case and her investigation is turning into an obsession, iDigitalTimes reported.
According to a previous report from Parent Herald, Gibson's unconventional methods could damage the case she's building against Spector, though Tom Anderson (Colin Morgan) and Danielle Ferrington (Niamh McGrady) will make a discovery that can help Stella's case. Paul's legal team, meanwhile, is confident that he won't stand trial.
The sixth and final episode of "The Fall" Season 3 will air a day after episode five premieres on Thursday, Oct. 27. Watch a preview below.
