Teen Mom Farrah Abraham Talks About Teen Pregnancy Pitfalls

Farrah Abraham, the 'Teen Mom' star is busy campaigning against getting pregnant at an early age, the same way happened to her.

The young mother who became pregnant at 17 is travelling across the country educating the young generation about the possible responsibilities and consequences that follow unsafe sex.

"When you have a child you lose all your freedom. It's more about your responsibilities and the stress and the hardships that you take on because you need to now be focused on your child," CarolinaLive.com quoted Abraham addressing an audience at the Myrtle Beach Trail depot, SC, Friday.

After becoming a mom at an early age, Abraham had to face many challenges and hardships including the loss of her child Sophia's father. Derek Underwood, Sophia's father was killed in a car accident Dec. 28, a few months before her birth.

The reality show 'Teen Mom' has come under criticism for glamorizing teen pregnancy. But according to the organizers of the campaign, the series sheds some light on the difficulties involved with teen pregnancy.

"It provides those teachable moments for parents to actually talk to their young people about, being a teen mom is not glamorous. You see the financial risks that are taken. People have to give up on educational dreams and on career dreams because they had a child," CarolinaLive.com quoted Taylor Wilson of the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, as saying.

Earlier this year, in May, Abraham had opened up about the hidden risks behind having unprotected sex.

"In regards to teens and sex, if you haven't already had sex, keep it that way," Abraham told Celebrity Baby Scoop. "If you have made the informed decision to have sex, you don't need to continue having sex and you can always stop. If you decide to continue being sexually active, please explore all contraceptive options. Even if you have found the love of your life, sex comes with responsibility and you must understand what you are getting yourself into and the potential consequences for your actions. There is never a time out for responsibility."

Apart from her efforts to prevent teen pregnancy through reality shows and campaigns, the young mother has tried her hand in writing and has put her experiences in to a book titled "My Teenage Dream Ended."
