'Moana' Release Date, News & Update: Dwayne Johnson Sings 'You're Welcome' As Disney Soundtrack Launches

Dwayne Johnson lends his voice to Disney's "Moana" as Maui, the Polynesian demigod. But that's not all he is doing in the film as the action star is also going to sing in it. The movie is launching the soundtrack to "Moana" on Nov. 18, which is a few days ahead of the movie's Nov. 23 release.

"You're Welcome" is the first track released for the "Moana" soundtrack and it features Dwayne Johson's singing voice. The song is written by "Hamilton" Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, according to E! Online.

Maui sings "You're Welcome" in the movie to introduce himself to the Polynesian princess and in the process, to the viewers as well. Check out part of "You're Welcome" from "Moana" with Dwayne Johnson singing in the video below.

According to Nerds and Beyond, the "Moana" soundtrack will be released on Nov. 18 and it's already up for pre-order at sites like Amazon. It will also feature original music created and performed by Mark Mancina and the Opetaia Foa'i.

Teen Vogue reports that Auli'i Cravalho, who is the voice of Moana, will also sing in the soundtrack along with Alessia Cara. The 15-year-old star of "Moana" also told the news outlet that she initially didn't get a part she was vying for at Disney when she sent the studio an A cappella clip. However, she was called back by the casting director for a tryout for "Moana" and the rest, as they say, is history.

"Moana" won't feature a love interest for the Disney princess. Instead, the film will be about finding ones identity and path. "This movie is about a journey - a physical one across hundreds and hundreds of miles of ocean, but also an emotional one of Moana finding herself," Auli'i Cravalho said via another Teen Vogue report.

"Moana" opens in theaters Nov. 23. Aside from Dwayne Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho, the movie also features the voices of Alan Tudyk, Jemaine Clement, Phillipa Soo, Rachel House and Temuera Morrison.
