Jaime King Baby News: Is The 'Hart of Dixie' Star Too Skinny? -- Tips on Gaining Pregnancy Weight [Poll]

"Heart of Dixie" star Jaime King is the newest hot topic when it comes to bodies and pregnancy.

The 36-year-old mom is being body shamed for being too thin while pregnant. Addressing the comments regarding her physique while expecting, King, who graced the cover of American Baby's August issue said, "People have made comments about how I'm too thin and need to eat a sandwich."

She continued to say (via People), "I've seen it happen with other pregnant women in this business too - we're either too thin or put on too much weight. But every woman's body is different ... all that matters is that you're taking care of the nutrition for yourself and your child."

Jamie, who already a son James Knight, 21-months, with husband Kyle Newman, says what's important is that you don't let others bring you down and you don't put others down either.

The actress has insisted that she is naturally thin.

Yahoo! News reports that on average, women gain anywhere between 10kg to 12.5kg (about 22lbs to 26lbs) during pregnancy. However, like King has said, it varies per person depending on their body type, baby's weight, as well as health considerations.

Tips on Gaining Weight While Pregnant

Below are some tips that may help you gain weight while you're pregnant:

  • Eat about give to six small meals each day.
  • Carry healthy, filling snacks that include nuts, raisins, cheese, yoghurt, crackers or dried fruit.
  • Take supplements and/ or vitamins, if necessary (with advise from your physician).

Gaining too much and gaining too little weight are both risky during pregnancy as it can lead to other complications that range from gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia as well as low birth weight in the baby.

"Every woman should gain a certain amount of weight in order to sustain the pregnancy, but throughout the entire pregnancy, you only need an extra 300 calories a day for one baby," quoted Fit Pregnancy of Celeste Durnwald, MD, assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

What is important is you maintain a healthy diet as advised by your physician and work with health care professionals on matters related to your pregnancy.
