When everyone is ready to count him out, following his team's very poor performance last season as mentioned in ESPN, Anthony "Brow" Davis showed the whole world how athletic he is and how he can put the whole team on his shoulder in their first game of the season.
According to Bleacher Report, no one has ever done this before in the history of the NBA. He now owns this solid statistic record for an opening game.
Davis poured in 50 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, gave away 5 assists, blocked 4 shots and snatched 7 steals in a 107-102 losing effort to the Denver Nuggets. The New Orleans Pelicans leaned on their leader however, it was not enough to pull off their first win.
Despite Brow's superheroic moves, the Nuggets had a huge rebounding advantage at the half to take an early double-digit lead which the Pels' was not able to recover.
Davis was very aggressive all night on both ends and showed no signs of his recent injury. Hitting shot after shot and overpowering every defender. He was a dominant force on the offensive end the whole night which made the life of backup point guard, Tim Frazier easier. Frazier had 11 assists searching for the Brow all game long. Davis was also the 2nd leading scorer with 15 points.
His all-around solid performance was not enough, though. There was not enough help because of the team's injury woes. Solomon Hill, the team's new acquisition played 27 minutes with only 2 points on 1 of 7 shooting according to his statistics on the NBA official website.
Unless the team make changes and invest on more solid role players and performers, critics will continue to talk about this trend all throughout the season. The loss came from a rising Nuggets team which is still hard to reach at least 40 wins in a season.
There will be more difficult challenges coming and this is only the first game. The Pels' will still need to face the mighty Spurs, Warriors, Clips and the Cavs. So it's really hard to foresee a different trend on this team's status and competitiveness.
We are now seeing what a prime Anthony "Brow" Davis can showcase. Let's all just hope that the team can still make better changes this early to keep their playoff hopes alive before it's too late.
