The D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department took to Twitter at around 6:30 P.M. that there were 42 children and one adult were assessed and taken to the hospital. One of the 42 children was taken to the hospital as he or she has a previous medical condition. Four other adults were also evaluated and they refused to be treated for their injuries at the hospital.

It was not specified if all the 42 children were on board the school bus or if some were on the Metrobus. Some parents reportedly went to the scene to try and take their children home but they were advised to go to the hospital as the children have to be evaluated.
Details about how the crash occurred are not yet available. Fire officials declared that the incident is a mass casualty due to the number of victims. However, it was not stated if there will be charges. The bus was reportedly travelling on the G-8 route from Farragut North and Avondale.
