Parenting Vs. Technology: Teaching Kids To Be Effective And Empowered Users Of Technology

Parenting is all about being balanced, one has to allow their child to use computers and mobiles but then again, they should know their limits as well. No one can stop a child to use the technology but even if they are halted, they will somehow find their own secret way to use it, which will be more harmful for them.

Alexandra Samuel is a technology writer and a speaker, as well as a mother of two kids. Samuel also noticed that her family and friends have opposite and different attitudes towards their children when it comes to the use of technology.

Some of them are extremely strict and others are lenient, the exact opposite and both of them have full confident on their parenting. According to the Huffington Post, Samuel conducted a survey in which she talked with more than 10,000 parents about their kid's technology usage. After the survey, it was concluded that the best way of parenting is the mentor's way.

Mentors are those parents who set limitations when it comes to their child's use of technology. It is the most balanced way of parenting, where one allows space to the child but at the same time setting boundaries for them. There is no doubt that technology can help a child in many ways but being a parent can become a conundrum every now and then, especially when parents try becoming a perfect mixture of authority and mentorship.

According to Brookings, with the help of technology children get to learn new things and when they have their own blog, they start to understand things and they also get to know what they are capable of doing. So, it falls on parents' shoulders to raise their children as mentors in order for them to become effective and empowered users of technology.
