The American Academy of Pediatrics says that the new born babies should sleep with their parents for the first year but they should not sleep on the same surface as their parent's. Sharing the same room with the new born is essential for the first whole year because ninety percent of unexpected deaths have occurred and to avoid that, infant should sleep in their parent's room.
It is not only important for the infant but it is also important for the parents as it gets a lot easier for them if the infant is in the same room as theirs. The feeding and monitoring of the baby becomes more easier and comfortable.
Babies should be placed to sleep on their backs for at least one year from the birth because when infants are placed on their sides to sleep it can increase the risk of SIDS. Even though there are a lot of comfortable pillows and products these days, they are not at all recommended for the infants for the first year, according to NBC News. They should sleep on a crib but without any pillows or toys.
A special advice to parents by the Huffington Post is that a parent should feed and comfort their baby on their own bed on not on any arm chair or couches. Their own beds are safe for the infants rather than any arm chair or couch.
When parents are using their own bed to comfort the baby, they should keep one thing in mind that any pillow or sheet should be away from the baby. Anything that can cause harm to the baby should not be there on the bed and once the baby is back to sleep return them to their own crib.
So parents, are you co-sleeping with your babies? If yes, better take note of some reminders mentioned above. For more parent tips and updates, check out Parent Herald.
