When it comes to Football accident happening during a game, this can be considered a huge bad luck hit. One such hit happened to and ran pretty hard on Coach Wade Phillips. He was carted off later after being crashed down during a play on the sidelines against the San Diego Chargers during the first quarter on Sunday.
According to Red Zone Blog, Wade Phillips, the 69-year-old Defensive Coordinator for Denver Broncos, was standing on the sideline as the players drifted his way when Bradley Roby's interception returned. Melvin Gordon, a Chargers' running back, was blocked by Miller and pushed out of boundaries. He then crashed into Phillips who took a hard fall to the ground. Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips' head seemed to bounce off the ground.
During the celebration when Roby returned the interception for a touchdown, the medical team quickly attended to the unlucky Phillips. They urgently strapped him to a hardboard and positioned his head in a neck brace.
Meanwhile, Denver Post News reported that Wade Phillips was immediately taken to a Denver area hospital. Phillips was then released after the game. The team said that Phillips is expected to return his work on Monday.
Broncos linebacker Von Miller expressed that he was definitely worried about Coach Phillips. But when the team came in from halftime, the medical team informed them that Phillips was all right. Gordon also said that a football player's instinct is that they always try to catch you. It just happened that Gordon ran into Phillips and couldn't stop. He was going too fast and really sorry about what happened.
However, Broncos linebackers coach Reggie Herring took the task for calling out the defensive plays in Wade Phillips absence.
As a result, the Denver Broncos defense was outstanding that day, forcing over three turnovers and making another two stands late in the game to preserve a lead.
