'Death Note Light Up The New World' Latest News And Updates: New 'Death Note' Movie Tops 'Your Name', Box Office Results Inside!

Just come to imagine the earnings of the live-action "Death Note Light up the NEW world". It earned 458,645,800 Yen or about 4.37 Million US Dollars during its opening weekend.

At the same time, it ranked #1 at the Japanese box office during the weekend episode, beating an anime film by Makoto Shinkai "Your Name", which topped the charts for nine consecutive weekends since it is was opened on August 26.

There are 342,309 tickets sold when the film opened on 342 screens. As compared to the live-action "Death Note" last 2006, it earned 405,629,000 yen or about 3.86 Million Dollars when converted today. Not to mention, it previously sold 306,385 tickets solely in its first weekend.

"Your Name" earned 17.19 billion yen or about 163.7 Million Dollars within 67 days from the time when it was opened on public. Besides, it is now considered as the ninth highest-grossing film ever in Japan and currently on its way to the eighth highest-grossing film, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" earning at most 17.3 Billion yen according to a report in Anime News Network.

The seventh highest-grossing film "Bayside Shakedown 2" earned 17.35 Billion yen, which means that the different between the next top grossing films is of little significance. "Your Name" has surpassed "Hayao Miyazaki" and "Studio Ghibli's The Wind Rises" of 2013 which earned at least 15.5 Billion yen.

Right now, the films that earn more than "Your Name" are Ghibli and Miyazaki's "Spirited Away", "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Princess Mononoke". It was being projected that the film will approach 20 Billion yen or at least 200 Million Dollars.

The "Death Note Light up the NEW World" opened last October 29 in Japan. However, the film will open in Australia and New Zealand on November 10. A local distributor Madman has posted an English subtitled trailer in preparation of the release of the film.
