Newly married couple, Nikki Reed, 27, and Ian Somerhalder, 36, are eager to grow their family via adoption. Only, it's not the kind of adoption one may easily conclude.
The couple, who tied the knot back in April, are said to be wanting to adopt a pig into their family. "We talk about pigs all the time," Nikki told People. "I'm sure in the near future when we move our life back to the West coast, we will probably end up with a couple rescue pigs," she added.
"The pig thing has actually become an issue because so many people went out and bought these micro mini pigs thinking they would stay this big, and then they ended up growing into like a 30 pound pig and they didn't know what to do with it," explained Nikki further.
A few weeks ago, while in attendance at an International Bird Rescue event, an organization Ian supports, the "Vampire Diaries" actor did say that they will eventually be rescuing "a pig that needs rescuing."
Both Nikki and Ian are staunch environmentalists and the actor recently gushed over just how much his wife has a big heart for animals, as previously reported in Parent Herald.
A source close to the couple, however, revealed that having kids may also be happening sooner rather than later. Ian told his wife during their honeymoon that they need to get to "the baby-making process" right away, according to The Record.
However, between juggling their commitment to their causes and organizations as well as plans of expanding their family, both stars are keeping busy with their work commitments on their TV shows. Nikki has just been casted for "Sleepy Hollow" season 3 on Fox and will be playing the seductive character, Bety Ross, the historical figure who designed America's very first flag and was Ichabod Crane's former flame.
"We are all very excited to welcome Nikki Reed into the world of 'Sleepy Hollow,'" said Len Wisemen, the show's co-creator via Daily News. "Nikki's the perfect choice to bring a smart and sexy edge to our show's twisted version of American icon Betsy Ross."
"Sleepy Hollow" returns to television on October 1, according to Fox.
Meanwhile, Ian is excited for the return of "Vampire Diaries" season 7 as he is set to direct an episode again, according to Wetpaint. The show will premiere its latest season on The CW on Oct. 8.
