'The Flash' Movie News: Director Steps Down, Production On Hold? Details Here!

The production of Warner Bros.' big-screen interpretation of "The Flash" might have to be put on hold as its director has stepped down from doing directorial duties. Rick Famuyiwa, who first made waves in the film industry for his coming-of-age Sundance film "Dope," has parted ways with the big studio production unit because of "creative differences."

In a statement released to The Hollywood Reporter, Famuyiwa admitted that he was excited when Warner Bros. and DC initially came up and talked to him about the possibility of him directing the film. He had pitched a version of his take on the film that was "in line with (his) voice, humor and heart."

However, both parties failed to find a common ground regarding the direction they want the film to go. A source told the online publication that Famuyiwa wanted to give an edgy take on the story of the famed superhero with a gift for speed, which was against what the studio had envisioned.

Although he was disappointed, Famuyiwa expressed that he was still grateful for the opportunity. "I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical and multicultural point of view," he said. He then wished the studio, as well as DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Ezra Miller good luck on their "journey in the speed force."

Famiyuwa had been on board the project since June and was hands-on in the development of the project, overseeing the casting of actors Billy Crudup and Kiersey Clemmons in significant roles. He's now the second director to leave the project, after Seth Grahame-Smith.

Grahame-Smith had already penned the script for the film and was assigned to direct, but left in April for reasons unknown. "The Flash" is currently slated for a March 2018 release, according to USA Today.
