The "zero to hero" former golf superstar "Long" John Daly finally shared his brilliant yet tragic life in sports documentary. Long John Daly is believed to be one of the most colorful, popular, yet controversial figures in golf sports history.
According to GOLF, Long John Daly got his first golf clubs when he was still 4 years old. The clubs were so long and heavy for him that when he took them back, they always fell out.
The most tragic part of his life would probably be the traumatic days with his alcoholic father who used to put a gun in his eye when he was still very young. This was the reason behind his gambling, smoking, womanizing, and alcoholism. In fact, Long John Daly almost took his own life.
When ESPN asked Center anchor Jonathan Coachman if he can consider Daly an overachiever or underachiever, he said that Long John Daly is a huge underachiever in golf sport. Jonathan even further pointed out that if Long John Daly took things more seriously, who knows how many majors or tournaments he could have won.
Long John Daly's two greatest accomplishments are his "zero to hero" victory in the 1991 PGA Championship and his playoff victory over Costantino Rocca in the 1995 Open Championship.
In 1997, Long John Daly became the first PGA. In the same year, his average records were more than 300 yards per drive over a full season and he did all over again in every season from 1999 to 2008.
But sadly, after 2006, Long John Daly's career began to fall. Daly had trouble making cuts and staying on the PGA Tour. Long John Daly primarily earned income through past champion status and numerous sponsor invitations.
