It seems that "Agents of SHIELD" viewers will have to keep an eye on the developing arc that's been happening in the show, as the latest episode "The Good Samaritan" has finally explained the true origins of Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider, known as Robbie Reyes, appeared in the first five episodes, where his true capabilities were shown.
Cinema Blend revealed that Robbie told the story to his brother and Daisy about the disaster which led him soul trading with the Devil. Robbie and his brother were heading to a street race when they ended up in a crossfire of an attempted hit on their uncle.
The crash left his brother paralyzed and Robbie, dead. Another Ghost Rider appeared on a motorcycle and passed the Spirit of Vengeance to Robbie, bringing him back to life and making him Ghost Rider. Robbie now attempts to save his brother's life and seek revenge.
Gizmodo reveals a bunch of questions that follow, like the identity of the original Ghost Rider, the reality of the event if a Ghost Rider has passed on the Spirit of Vengeance, Uncle Eli's possible significance, and the speculation that Ghost Rider's appearance in "Agents of SHIELDS" may just be a set-up for another spin-off to take place, courtesy of ABC.
The episode ends with Robbie, Coulson, and Fitz getting zapped to the Dark Dimension by Uncle Eli. To backtrack, Robbie has always claimed that he had sold his soul to the Devil to get his power.
This makes his story less mystical to what the fans would have believed, but it puts Robbie in a more sympathetic spotlight, where he only sort of volunteered his soul, given that his only option was death.
As to the identity of the Ghost Rider who passed the Spirit of Vengeance, it could open a new angle towards the Ghost Rider mythology with an original character, or "Agents of SHIELD" can reveal that the original Ghost Rider is Johnny Blaze - the story could go to different directions.
