J.K. Rowling's "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is set to hit the big screen this month. Potterheads are psyched about the upcoming film but some were in outraged after they found out that Johnny Depp is part of the cast for the upcoming "Fantastic Beasts" sequel.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is set to hit the big screens on Nov. 18. "Harry Potter" fans are more than excited to get a glimpse of the magical world once again, years after the last part of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" made its premiere in 2011. Prior to the "Fantastic Beasts" premiere, however, the franchise caused an uproar among fans and concerned parents with their latest announcement.
It was recently announced that Johnny Depp will be joining the cast of the "Fantastic Beasts," which caused frustration and backlash among fans and parents. Johnny Depp's role is yet to be announced but his co-role is already confirmed as reported by Deadline. David Yates is bound to direct the sequel, which would star Eddie Redmayne who would take on the main role of Newt Scamander.
Hypable released an update where it was mentioned that there's a huge possibility that Johnny Depp will be portraying the role of Greenwald. Though some may be excited, a majority of Potterheads posted their frustration over Johnny Depp's casting on Twitter. Some voiced out their disgust as Johnny Depp was previously accused of domestic violence on women that was exposed during his divorce with Amber Heard.
a wild idea: what if we didn't put a domestic abuser in one of the most culturally significant and morally formative franchises of our time

"I'm livid about the Johnny Depp casting," a blogger wrote as reported by SMH. "It's revealed that you attacked and abused your wife and then you get this? No. Absolutely not."
now I have to choose between supporting a domestic abuser and harry potter? fuck this noise! — Anna Menta (@annalikestweets) November 2, 2016
Buzzfeed released a compilation of tweets that highlighted the fans frustrations as they voiced out their dismay. Though there are those who are highly against Johnny Depp, there are those who took his side stating that his domestic violence case were just allegations against him as he did not provide guilty.
I thought I'd wake up feeling less angry but no, I'm a mix of Hermione when she finds out there are house elves at Hogwarts and OOTP Harry.
