NBA 2016 Updates: Durant and Warriors Silence Westbrook’s Thunder; OKC’s Winning Streak Over, Bad Blood Between Durant and Westbrook Ongoing

Thursday night saw the OKC Thunder suffer their first loss of the young season. Going against the Golden State Warriors and former team member Kevin Durant, the OKC Thunder was silenced heading into the second half with a score of 122-96 at the closing buzzer.

Durant who played for OKC joined the Warriors after he became a free agent, which surprised many since it was the Warriors who ousted OKC last year in the Western Conference while Durant was still playing for them.

Speculations abound as to how the first meeting between Kevin Durant and former teammate Russell Westbrook would be like. All were answered by halftime as Durant lifted the Warriors to a 68-43 half-time lead after suffering an early deficit.

Durant scored 29 points in the first half while adding 10 more points to that by end time. Matching his career high, he garnered seven three-pointers, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked a shot to end the OKC Thunder’s 4-game win streak. Westbrook, on the other hand, managed only to sink 20 points with 10 assists and six rebounds.

Stephen Curry scored 21 points and seven assists, while Klay Thompson broke his cold-shooting streak with a season-high four triples to contribute 18 points for the Golden State Warriors.

The Thunder's Victor Oladipo meanwhile netted a team-high 21 points to contribute to Westbrook's efforts but sadly they were not enough.

"We just wanted to come out here and play a good brand of basketball," Durant said. "We wanted to defend, get out in front ... we get a lot of points up and get stops on the defensive end, we're pretty good, so it's a good night for us."

Durant averaged 27.4 points over nine seasons with Oklahoma City Thunder before crossing over to the Golden State Warriors as a free agent and was a force to reckon with from the opening tip-off on Thursday.
