The two brothers from Georgia who tried to kill their parents were sentenced to 20 years behind bars. They drugged their parents and tried to beat them to death.
The two brothers were identified as Cameron Ervin, 17, and Christopher Ervin, 22. They were brought to the Gwinnett County Superior Court on Monday. They pleaded guilty to all the thirteen charges against them including aggravated assault, first-degree arson, kidnapping and felony. They were both charged as adults at the beginning of the case.
New York Daily News reported that the plot to kill the parents was executed on Sept.5 of last year. The parents, Zachery and Yvonne Ervin, had dinner with their children, which was drugged. The children then cut the gas line in an attempt to explode their home. The siblings also reportedly stabbed Zachery and covered the face of Yvonne with Saran wrap. Yvonne was able to make a 911 call.
Officials said during the trial that when they failed to killed their parents, Christopher said they have to shot them. The parents of the two kids believed that the two were high on marijuana that caused their aggressive behavior.
Cameron said during the sentencing that the time he spend in the Gwinnett County Detention Center, he had at least one visit a week with his parents and that was when he realized how much he loves them. Cameron added that he and his brother are not the people they were before the assault.
The family started a nonprofit organization called "Fighting For Forgiveness," Patch reported. This organization helps people with depression or those who are dealing trauma and needs professional help.
As part of the plea deal, Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter agreed that the possibility of a 30-year probation could take place after each brother serves 10 to 20 years behind bars.
