Britain's royal bachelor Prince Harry just confirmed his relationship with Northwestern University graduate Meghan Markle. Prince Harry slammed tabloid writers and "social media trolls" for racist comments in his Kensington Palace statement.
The statement read that Prince Harry is "worried about Ms. Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her." And that Meghan Markle has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment, some of which have been public. The statement was issued Tuesday by the Prince's communications secretary via the palace Twitter account.
The days of speculation regarding the relationship between the 32-year-old Prince Harry and the 35-year-old Meghan Markle of the legal drama "Suits" has been finally put to rest. This goes to show difficult it was for Prince Harry to keep his love life private.
The headlines which mostly consisted of underhanded insults - like Daily Mail's headline that Markle is "(almost) straight outta Compton" - are a change of pace for the self-described Northwestern "theater nerd." Markle told Marie Claire magazine in a 2013 interview that she wanted to do acting, but she hated being this cliché, L.A. girl who decided to be an actress.
Apparently, Meghan Markle loved politics, so she decided to change her major completely and double-majored in theater and international relations. By junior year, Meghan Markle finished most of her credits, applied for an internship at the U.S. Embassy, and ended up working in the embassy in Buenos Aires for a few months. Talk about girl power!
After graduating from Northwestern's School of Communication in 2003, Meghan Markle was able to get small parts on TV shows and TV movies until she landed a starring role as Rachel Zane on "Suits" in 2011. Markle, who films "Suits" in Toronto, went back to Chicago last year to host the Women in Cable Telecommunications luncheon at McCormick Place. As part of the "Suits" college tour, Meghan visited her alma mater Northwester in 2014.
