The upcoming "Beauty and the Beast" live action movie starring Emma Watson will have three never before heard songs from the original 1991 Disney animation. The songs were written by award-winning composers Alan Menken and Tim Rice along with the late Howard Ashman. They were supposedly written for the original animated film but were eventually dropped and forgotten, until now.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the three "old" songs will be included in the upcoming "Beauty and the Beast" movie's original soundtrack. The soundtrack will also include the song "Our Song Lives On," where Belle, portrayed by Watson, sings along with her father Maurice (Kevin Kline).
Another song is entitled "For Evermore," sung by Beast (Dan Steven). The song is about the moment when Beast finally realizes that he loves Belle, but lets her go after she finds out that her father is in trouble. Spoiler alert: Beast will sing this heart-wrenching song while he climbs up one of the castle turrets, as he watches Belle leave the castle and disappear into the woods, away from him.
Producer David Hoberman told Entertainment Weekly that the third song, penned by Alan Menken, is a very special song and is expected to win an Academy Award for the movie. Entitled "Days in the Sun," the song is actually a lullaby, performed right at the moment when all the animated objects and characters in the castle are about to sleep and is a reminder of happier times.
Some of the songs were also reinvented, but Menken made sure that they did not lose their classic Disney charm, as reported by MovieWeb. "Gaston," for instance, has an added daring attitude to it. Menken said that it was a little bit daring for the animated film in 1991, but now fits perfectly with the live remake.
Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" live action movie is expected to hit the theaters on March 17, 2017.
