"The Last of Us 2" release date rumors still continue to spread online despite a clear confirmation of the project from Naughty Dog. Fans of the game have been clamoring for its sequel, but Neil Druckmann and his team have yet to reveal the real status of the project.
Druckmann previously confirmed that "The Last of Us 2" release date rumors have a basis as he and his team have really started initial research and work on the sequel. However, he claimed that all of their attention were shifted to complete "Uncharted 4," leaving TLOU's progress in question.
In a previous GamesRadar report, Druckmann claimed that he and directing partner Bruce Straley have already explored options for "The Last of Us 2." While he and Straley are considering to give fans a game reminiscent of the original title, the sequel will most likely be a total overhaul.
With that in mind, fans are now wondering whether Ellie and Joel's return is imminent in "The Last of Us 2." While many want the two lead characters to return, other fans have expressed that they're open to Naughty Dog introducing new characters in the sequel.
While waiting for any specific details about "The Last of Us 2," it sure helps that Naughty Dog has released a remastered version of "The Last of Us." The new version will be compatible with the new PS4 Pro, and will reportedly run in 4K at 30fps, GameSpot noted.
While nothing has been set on stone, rumors are claiming that fans will eventually get some major updates about "The Last of Us 2" after work on "Uncharted 4" is done. Some sources are hopeful that this would come around 2018.
