On Nov. 8, 2008, Prince Harry issued a statement via the Kensington Palace to defend "Suits" star Meghan Markle, his rumored girlfriend. A surprising move by one of the members of the Royal family, because this is the first time, one of them have released a statement as personal and as direct as that of Prince Harry's, thus putting a firm confirmation on the real status of their [Markle and Prince Harry] relationship.
On a report from Marie Claire, the Prince addressed the letter to people who have been so rude and judgemental towards her girlfriend in addition to the then, abusive media who had their eyes on Meghan Markle ever since the news about their relationship was out. According to Prince Harry's statement, the harassment has reached to a point where low-blow remarks, in the lines of racism and sexism, have been thrown to the said girlfriend.
Also in the statement, Prince Harry acknowledges the fact that his being a Royal meant that his life is definitely subject to public scrutiny and humbly appreciates the concern that has been expressed towards him. Prince Harry also reiterates that even before he was never comfortable about sharing much detail about his private life, let alone his relationships but this has gotten offhand and he feels that it's about time for him to speak out.
On an article published by The Telegraph, it seems that a headline from a newspaper is what drove the Prince to the edge. The said newspaper reports that the sex scenes of Meghan Markle on her show "Suits" have been uploaded to a porn site and some reports touching on speculations of the real reason of Meghan Markle's divorce from Trevor Engelson of late.
A close friend of Prince Harry reveals that the Royal talked about fearing about Meghan Markle calling it quits because she just had enough and that anyone will think twice about jumping in on a relationship with a Royal because of the damage negative publicity can do.
