Katy Perry has been a steadfast Hillary Clinton supporter in the 2016 U.S. Election. In fact, she openly spoke that she's with the Democratic candidate and even gave a speech and performed during the party's National Convention over the summer.
The influential pop star with the most number of followers on Twitter, however, revealed that her parents voted for Donald Trump last Nov. 8. Her parents are California evangelical ministers, Keith and Mary Hudson.
Katy Perry told this bit to a crowd during a Clinton election party in New York. But she reflected that at the end of the day, her family will still be celebrating this year's Thanksgiving together.
"And this is the moment we need to remember that we all love our parents, and we all love our children," the "Rise" singer reminded her fellow Democrats, according to Time. She also urged them to continue working together. "Let's be one nation indivisible with a kick-ass president," she said.
During the Democratic convention, Katy Perry said that her pastor parents are "staunch Republicans" and yet she chose to support Hillary Clinton. "I don't have a formal education, but I do have an open mind and a voice," she told the crowd, the Telegraph reports.
The 32-year-old award-winning music artist, however, doesn't hide the fact that she is mourning how Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump. Ad Week reports that she's one of the celebrities who led a #TwitterBlackout post-election in an effort to let the world know that the Democrats will continue to fight for America.
So affected was the "California Gurls" singer that she supposedly dropped out of her concert in China this weekend. Citing her reason as "family emergency," Katy Perry told her Chinese fans that she will not be joining the Singles Day event with OneRepublic. There have been speculations that she decided to skip this concert due to election stress and that her family members are actually OK.
