Students have been walking out of their classes and joining the protest against the victory of Donald Trump but it is another story at Royal Oak Middle School. According to reports, a group of middle schoolers chanted "build the wall" while having lunch on Wednesday.
Donald Trump talked about building a wall at the southern border of the United States in order to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in the country illegally. The video has had more than 4.7 million views on Facebook and it showed students sitting around tables in the school's cafeteria while a specific group started chanting the aforementioned words, Business Insider reported.
District Superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin said in a statement that the incident did take place but the chants came from a small group of students only. However, despite the number of students supporting Donald Trump and his idea on immigrants, the posting of the video on social media made parents express their concern. Lewis-Lakin assured that they are working with their partners in the law enforcement agencies to respond to any threats, if any, in the future, The Washington Post reported.
The one who uploaded the video claimed that Latin children were crying when the group of students started to chant. The caption added, "The taunts, the 'Build that Wall' with such bullying power and hate from children to children. Just Horrifying!" It is unclear who uploaded the video. The video lasted for eight seconds and has been shared thousands of times.
Aside from Donald Trump's proposal to build a wall, the President-elect also said during his campaign that Mexican immigrants are the criminals and rapists in the United States. This has been strongly criticized but Donald Trump continued to refer to them as such.
As of writing, it is not yet clear if Donald Trump will really order the construction of a wall at the southern US border. What are your thoughts on the incident? Feel free to write a comment below.
