Adverse Effects of Technology

Researchers analyzed hundreds of studies of children aged 6-19. The researchers found a consistent and vigorous linkage between poor sleeping and technology use at bedtime. Using computers over-stimulate emotions and mind. The problem is not only that with these devices kids stay up late, but there is much more to the story.

The body's natural timing and alertness are affected by the light emitted by the smartphones or tablets. Poor quality sleep is caused by the contribution of these factors. A great number of things could be at risk because of these devices.Per Time for Kids," 72% of all children and 89% of adolescents have at least one device in their sleep environment." Most of them are used near bedtime.

According to Edudemic, the adverse association between kids sleep and screen-based devices are a major public health problem. In their results, the researchers urge health care professionals, parents, teachers, and children to understand the harmful effect of device use on sleep.

On a school night, many kids get less sleep. Per the National Sleep Foundation, "Kids aged between 6 to 13 should be getting between nine and 11 hours of sleep per night". For learning complex subjects like Mathematics and foreign languages, a good quality sleep is required for the kids.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises kids to stop looking at screens at least half an hour before bedtime. These helps get your body ready for sleep and your brain to slow down. Bedrooms should be "screen-free zones." Says The AAP.

Try these relaxing activities, if tempted to pick up an electronic device at bedtime instead. Keep journals where you write worries and thoughts that put weight on the mind at night. Writing thoughts down on paper clears the mind.

Mind exercising helps a bundle. Count backward from 100 after closing. Following that, take a chill pill and relax. Inhale deeply and slowly, then exhale. You now feel like entering a state of limbo. All that needs to be said is Sweet dreams!
