Switched At Birth? Mom Discovers Birth Mishap 10 Years Later; Drunk Nurse Blamed

Two decades ago, Sophie Serrano gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whom she named Manon, who was diagnosed with jaundice and was placed in an incubator for four days after birth. Four days later, Manon was returned to her mother but Sophie doubted that something was really wrong.

Since Manon's physical features, from her fuller and thicker hair and her darker skin color, didn't resemble both parents, Sophie refused to believe this was her biological child. But when she asked the nurse whether they had made a mistake and had given the child to a wrong mother, the nurse assured her that the baby looked different due to the incubator's radiation and it was totally okay.

Reassured by the nurse's remarks, Sophie took her baby girl home assuming that she was her biological child. However, Sophie was in for a huge surprise.

As Sophie's daughter grew older, her skin turned more olive while her hair became curlier. It was shocking that Manon's physical features didn't resemble either parent.

Eventually, Manon's physical features led to several rumors and accusations. There would be speculations claiming that Sophie cheated on her husband and how this would lead to a potential divorce. To avoid this mishap, Sophie had Manon's DNA Test conducted a decade after Manon's birth, as per Little Things.

The DNA proved that a mother's instinct is always right. The reason? The test shockingly revealed that Manon was neither Sophie nor her husband's daughter.

According to the Blog Box, a thorough investigation had then started at the hospital, which came to the conclusion that Manon was indeed switched at birth. At the time, the nurse was reportedly drunk and wasn't paying much attention to which baby belonged to which mother.

Even though the hospital refused to pay for this stupidity, the court eventually ruled in favor of the two families. The ruling decided that each family would receive $2 million.

As for the switched babies, 20-year-old Manon and the other switched child, who's Sophie's biological daughter, decided that it was too late to go with their birth parents. In fact, the two families barely had communicated with each other and decided that each daughter continues to live their lives with the parents who raised them for almost 20 years.
