Drug-Induced Abortion: Why Medical Abortion Is Making More Women Suffer

Abortion in a drug-induced form has increased its numbers over the years. As the numbers keep on increasing, the risk, complications and dangers on women also went up.

Today, drug-induced abortions are gaining popularity among woman. Even though it is a convenient way for abortion provider facilities as they have less involvement in the process, a new study reveals that this type of abortion that has less supervision in the process is seen to have greater danger to women.

The research highlighted that self-administered abortion pills could make women suffer more as it could cause excessive bleeding, severe anemia and some patients presented with shock. These drug-induced abortions could also lead to incomplete abortion, failed abortion and incomplete abortion with sepsis. Hence, experts concluded, "unsupervised medical abortion can lead to increased maternal morbidity and mortality."

Meanwhile, the press release emailed to Parent Herald from the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists cited a recent article in Reuters that reported women prefer medical abortion over surgical one because they can do it at the convenience of their home. Also, they have their partner with them throughout the process, which is comparable to a miscarriage.

Even though there are limitations in the way the medical drugs are dispensed, some states made an effort to give limited access to surgical abortion and provide greater awareness that boosts the medication abortion that uses pills. The process of dispensing the drug to induce abortion was approved more than a decade ago.

These prescribing guidelines were sought by Danco Laboratories, which is the first and only producer of the pills in the United States. In the process of medical abortion, it involves two pills - Mifepristone is the one that blocks the progesterone that is the sustaining hormones in pregnancy while the other pill is Misoprostol, the drug that induces uterine contractions.

Despite the fact that the numbers of medical abortion have risen, the total number of abortion in the United States has declined. Meanwhile, the issue of abortion has been one of the politically charged topics in the United States.

This issue has been part of the final debate between top presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, who is also the newly elected POTUS (President of the United States). During the debate, the issue on abortion caused a fiery exchange of ideas and recommendations on how to resolve the issue, especially on medical abortion.
