Rockstar has been busy all year long with the release of "Red Dead Redemption 2." Fans have been clamoring though for news as to whether the studio intends on releasing "Grand Theft Auto 6" in 2018 or 2020, with a new female lead and location.
"Grand Theft Auto 5" was released in 2013, 5 years ago. But the game is still earning in sales with Rockstar Games currently developing more updates and expansion packs for the "GTA 5." However, this isn't enough for fans as they demand new content, a new and updated game. Luckily, Rockstar hinted an early release for "Grand Theft Auto 6."
Did Rockstar just really hinted on a 2018 or a 2020 "Grand Theft Auto6" release date?
Rockstar Games is known for taking their time with their game titles or surprising fans for a very unexpected release, much like what they did with "Red Dead Redemption 2." Although they made mention and announcements for the online "GTA 5," there is no word yet for "GTA 6."
However, if you follow their game release timeline, 2018 is the most likely realistic year for "Grand Theft Auto 6" release. Remember that the previous "Grand Theft Auto" was released in 2008 and 2013, 5 years apart.
But according to a recent report, while the timeline is clear, many believe that Rockstar may not be able to have a 2018 "Grand Theft Auto 6" release because they do not have enough resources and time to work on two separate IPs, given "Red Dead Redeption 2" early reveal.
So, 2020 is the most likely year for "Grand Theft Auto 6" release. Rockstar Games previously mentioned that they are in the small stages of development for "GTA 6," per report.
Will there be new location and a new female lead for the "Grand Theft Auto 6" release?
Rockstar Games developers are very cautious when it comes to "Grand Theft Auto 6" location as this can make or break the game. Neurogadget reported that because there is already a "Grand Theft Auto: London 1969," so the next setting would be in the UK.
However, it could be another foreign country like Japan, home to Yakuza and gang wars, or closer to home like Chicago, much like Vice City and Los Santos maps. In addition to location, rumor has it that "Grand Theft Auto 6" release with feature an 80s vibe with vintage cars and a retro culture.
"Grand Theft Auto 6" release will sport a female gender per rumors. This will be a major challenge for Rockstar Games as the previous instalments have been purely male-dominated leads. It would go either way for the franchise. If Rockstar would do so with a female lead, then they can just add unique characters to "GTA 6."
The Verdict
Although there has been no official word from "GTA" Rockstar Games, they might announce "Grand Theft Auto 6" release during the E3 2017. The latest instalment may even be VR or AR ready.
Right now, attention is mostly focused on "Red Dead Redemption 2," so fans will have to wait until the official announcement of "Grand Theft Auto 6" release. In the meantime, stay tuned for more news on the iconic game from Rockstar "GTA."
