With the approval of Unicode, Apple is set to release 51 new Emojis, dubbed as the 'next generation', in 2017. The announcement was made after the release of the iOS 10.2 for iPhone and iPad which also upgraded and redesigned some of the existing Emoji.
From a pretzel to a zebra to a giraffe and even Dracula, the new selection of Emojis could make your conversations fun, colorful and improved. There will be a total of 51 new Emoji set to be released later this year or early next year and 33 existing ones to be updated.
The Unicode 10 Emoji were approved by the governing body, Unicode, which oversees the release of symbols to mobile platforms. Unicode reviews and evaluates third-parties and users' requests before they come up with a new set of symbols aka Emoji.
This update includes an Emoji of a woman in a Hijab and a woman breastfeeding, which happens to be first in history. Unicode decided to release these Emojis as an act towards inclusivism.
In previous reports, Unicode 9 unveiled 72 Emojis last June 21, 2016. Some of the Unicode 9 Emoji includes face palm, dancing man, shrimp, squid, bacon, pancake, croissant and more.
These Emojis are illustrated differently in mobile platforms (Android or Mac). Although Unicode released them last June, not all the Emoji are available on our smartphones.
The same goes with the Unicode 10. You can't expect all the symbols to appear on your mobile phones. It's up to Apple when to release them.
With all these upgrades happening, we can expect Unicode 10 Emoji to be available on our phones the moment the next OS update is available.
