A mother in Texas is facing charges regarding child endangerment. This is after it was discovered that wild animals such as monkeys and tigers are allowed to roam free inside her home where her 14-year-old daughter also resides.
CBS reported that the mother, identified as Trisha Meyer, moved this year to Texas. She is now being held at Nye County, Nevada. She is awaiting extradition due to the child endangerment charge. She reportedly returned to Nevada as this is where she previously lived.
According to police, Meyer was first investigated after a theft report was filed. She reportedly sold an exotic kitten for $3,000 but never delivered the cat. Officers then found tigers, a skunk, and a fox at the home of Meyer. The 14-year-old was allegedly seen petting some of the animals. Monkeys were also found at the Texas home of Meyer and she allegedly admitted that one of the monkeys was vicious and attacks people.
There was a total of four tigers inside the home. Three of the tigers were cubs but one of them was a large male. Meyer said that she had permits over owning the tigers. Tigers are among the dangerous wild animals that could be legally owned as pets in Harris County, Texas, The Sun reported.
These tigers kept as pets should be registered with the county health department and are subject to certain rules such as being kept in a secure enclosure. It is unclear if Meyer followed the other requirements as she clearly did not keep the tigers inside a secure enclosure. Photos showing Meyer posing with the wild animals are also posted on her social media account.
Meyer was kicked out of the Houston-area home as the landlord was contacted by police over the keeping of exotic animals, which the landlord claims he was not aware of. Meyer allegedly went back to Nevada with the animals. The animals were subsequently confiscated after her arrest.
