GoPro has officially announced a recall program for its Karma Drones after units started falling from the sky. Actual footage records how Karma Drones lose power and die in mid-air.
The Verge says the recall announcement must have missed the public's attention due to the timing of its release. The statement went public amidst the news of the US presidential elections. Whether it be a smart PR move or a genuinely hilarious timing, all Karma Drone owners must be informed before their drones hit them from the skies.
After the election chaos dies down, the falling drones will surely capture public attention says The Inertia. Before hitting the ground with a blast, the drones were able to capture an actual footage of its own fall. Of course, the default next step is to post the fallen drone footage on social media.
Internet goers started to notice a sudden wave of videos that contained the same set of keywords including "GoPro", "Drones", "Falling" and "Crash". Numerous video clips have invaded many social media sites and garnered increasing views from the video host Youtube.
The many footage seems to depict a similar pattern - the drone starts up well, takes off and captures beautiful videos in mid-air. After about three to five minutes, the drone suddenly loses power and the machine stops working. Cue in footage of the drone's short trip to the ground.
What's becoming more interesting is that the videos all show that the drone's machine attempts to restart shortly before it hits the ground. GoPro immediately issued a statement urging all customers to return their Karma Drone units.
Nothings is known for sure at this point. But one thing is for sure, GoPro is not offering a replacement or repair for Karma Drones. All we can do is patiently wonder why the drones fell from the sky.
Do you own a Karma Drone? Return it now!
